Profound Treasury Volume 1: The Path of Individual Liberation

With Daniel Berlin and Alexandria Barnes

April 29 - May 20, 2019

The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma is a 3-volume compendium of Tibetan Buddhism, distilled from talks given by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche during the 13 Vajradhatu Seminaries conducted between 1973 and 1986.  This work, conducted under the editorial direction of Judith Lief, contains teachings on the major themes of the three turnings of the Wheel of Dharma — Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. We will be focusing on the first, The Individual Path Liberation. This is class is accessible to beginners and advanced students.

In this series, we will be discussing the first of the three, The Profound Treasury Volume One: The Path of Individual Liberation. The group meets on Mondays from April 29-May 20 from 7:00-8:30 pm. Sitting will be offered at 6:30 and optional for participants.

The expected structure of the group’s meetings will be:

  • Short period of Mindfulness-Awareness meditation
  • Brief comments on the chapter or chapters to be covered by the teacher
  • Structured discussion of the material, using the structure:

                             Hearing — studying the words

Contemplating — understanding the words through self-reflection

Meditating — assimilating and embodying the teaching

Students need not have read the entire first volume but are encouraged to begin reading at their own pace. Every week, a new theme will be centered and certain chapters used to support that week’s lesson.

A description of the Profound Treasury may be found here.  Please have a purchased copy to bring with you on a weekly basis.
