Sacred Path: Drala

Prerequisite: Sacred Path: Great Eastern Sun & Windhorse

Drala is a pivotal level on the warrior’s path. The principle of drala refers to the sacred energy and power that exists when we step beyond aggression. Here we are introduced to teachings that invite us to sharpen our awareness of the subtle, unseen energies of our world. Through exploring the depth of perception, one engages the elemental and magical strength inherent in the environment.

In this weekend we are presented with a map of the various layers of energy and manifestation that comprise our vast Shambhala world. We will deepen our connection to this presence by perceiving with the discipline of leading with an open heart, which allows for direct and nonconceptual experience. We are then available to receive, in the words of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, the “blessing energy of reality.”

The weekend also includes a field trip to a natural environment, providing space and time to practice engaging in this intimate dialogue with the world.


Timothy Quigley
Timothy Quigley has practiced in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage for over 25 years. He recently served as the Interim Executive Director and Director of Practice and Education for the Shambhala Meditation Center of New York. Currently he is on the teaching faculty for Shambhala Ritual Academy. In 2015 he accompanied a group of Shambhala representatives who were part of the first Buddhist delegation to meet with a presidential administration in the West Wing of the White House.
