Kami Nature Shrine Opening

With Dr. Eva Wong

June 10, 2018

In Asian culture, nature is a sacred force, and there is a divine power that permeates
trees, waterfalls, pools, and rocks. The Kami shrines of Japan are structures dedicated to honoring the spirits of the land. These shrines are typically located in natural areas where there is a concentration of divine power, such as groves of trees, unusual rock formations, moss-covered river banks, and pools formed by waterfalls and waterways.

Kami means divine wind. This wind is the sacred breath of the sky and earth that
energizes all life. The Kami shrine is a place where we can make offerings to the spirits that protect and bless the land. In visiting a Kami shrine, we form a relationship with nature, honoring the healing and nurturing qualities of the natural world.

The Kami Shrine of Sky Lake is situated among rock formations that resemble the
sacred islands of the divine spirits. On Sunday June 10, 2018, there will be an opening ceremony of the Kami Shrine at Sky Lake Shambhala Meditation Center. This ceremony is part of the program “The Ways of the Earth and Sky” led by Taoist practitioner Eva Wong. The program runs from 9am to 6pm. The public is welcome to participate in the ceremony from 3-4pm.
